This rare set of 1880’s tiles were made by Minton Hollins in England using the transferware method. The tiles at the top of the surround feature six classic Aesop Fables, including:

  • The Fox & The Crow

  • The Hare & The Tortoise

  • The Dog & His Shadow

  • The Tortoise & The Eagle

  • The Fox in the Well

  • The Goat Calf and Sheep in Partnership With the Lion

The surround is paired with English glazed encaustic tiles of the same era, including classic pinwheel designs. Both the surround and hearth can be resized to fit specific dimensions. They currently measure:

  • Surround: 42” wide by 36” tall

  • Hearth: 60” wide by 20” tall

All tiles are cleaned and restored, ready for installation upon delivery.

These tiles will be shipped via UPS Ground mail with standard insurance and tracking for $32, regardless of zip code. All items sold as is with no warranties expressed or implied.

 

  • The surround of this set measures 42” wide by 36” tall. The breastplate is 6” in height; the surround sides are 6” wide.

    The hearth measures 60” wide by 20” tall. This set can be reworked based on your dimensions, so reach out for a custom design.

    • Ready for install: fully cleaned

    • Good condition

    Typical of their age, they may have some pits and flea bites, but are in good condition. 

    All tiles are fully checked for cracks or chips, any tiles that do not meet our installation standards are not placed in inventory.
